Journal Entry 1

9/12:
One thing I liked most about the readings we did in class (and Pausch) was getting a sense of everyone's different character. They are good examples of personal characters because they showed who they are through their writing. They appealed to audiences by keeping their words simple and energetic. Pausch was upbeat and positive while Gates was relate-able. I can use these examples in my own writing. I liked that they put a sense of themselves in their writing and did not worry about what everyone else was going to think. Normally I try to please my audience, but this taught me to just write as I am.

10/15:
I am interested in exploring how chemicals in our food are killing us. I may also want to write about the national shift in language. The last thing I'm interested about is writing about music, not sure yet. Honestly, I'm confused about what this writing assignment is even about. I just came up with these topics because I wanted to have something for this journal entry. Hopefully I will be able to narrow down these topics soon and pick a real one.

10/24:
The activity we did in class yesterday helps me think about my own inquiry question because it showed me that almost anything is searchable. This will help me actually pick a topic. I was struggling with figuring out what to write about because I thought it had to be something really academic. This helped show me that I can be creative with my topic.

10/29:
I feel pretty good about my inquiry question. I don't know if I have my wording right yet. I also wish I had more guidelines. I'm really not sure what this paper is even about. Actually, I don't feel good about my question at all. I feel completely in the dark, I just picked something because I wanted to participate in class. I definitely need help narrowing it down!

11/5:
I think NC residents should be able to chose who goes in office, but that they need to education themselves beforehand. I do not think people should get elected because of their name. A lot of times people in these types of situations say what they know the audience wants to hear whether it's true or not. Honestly I do not plan on voting, not because I don't care about this country but because I don't like what I'm hearing and seeing from either candidate. Then again, I'm also not educated enough in politics to vote. I definitely need to start paying more attention to whats going on in this country. I realize that it's a privilege to be able to vote and I am taking it for granted.

REFLECTION:

I realized that all of my journal entries were really impersonal, so I went through and added what I was really thinking and feeling for every entry. Everything I added is in bold, italics, and underlined.
